Jolly busy June!
June is looking jolly busy for us and we hope that you will find some time to join us in between enjoying the sunshine (or rain). We also hope that the recent local elections will bring about some interesting collaborations (below is one example) and get community energy back on track soon – whether it be renewable energy generation or energy saving.
For a full June brief, please see our latest newsletter. Here we’d like to draw your attention to the following events and hope to see you at some of them:
We’re joining Extinction Rebellion York and lots of other local groups for a family friendly, community-led, participatory “people’s assembly” for individuals and organisations who care about creating a sustainable future for all.
Learn to assess your home on its energy efficiency and carbon impact with Andy Walker of SURE insulation. In this practical workshop you will learn how to spot where you are losing most heat and what you can do about it to save money on energy bills. By the end you will be able to do a basic assessment of your own home (or anyone else’s), and start a whole house plan for improving it. A tailored professional assessment could cost you up to £500.
An optional afternoon session, 1:30-3:30pm (after 1pm lunch), is aimed at those who would like to become trainee home assessors, either as part of their trade or as DIY enthusiasts. Stay for this free session to find out how you can make more use of what you’ve learned.
Tickets: £20/£15 conc. Book via St Nicks page.
Want to join us for the mass lobby for climate and the environment? This summer the government will decide whether to end the UK’s contribution to climate change by committing to an ambitious net zero emissions target. They will also have the chance to end nature’s decline by committing to a strong Environment Bill. Now is the time to push for bold action, such as the better support for renewable energy projects demanded by the Power for People campaigns (see below). Sign up or find out more here and let us know if you’d like to meet up with other YCE members when you’re in London. We’d love to have a strong York presence!
We’ll finish the fortnight with some fun and a stall at this family-friendly event with this year’s theme of “Save the Planet”. Pop along to say hello and let us know soon if you might be able to help out on the day. Find out more on the Carnival page.
