Renewable Energy Study Tour, September 26th

31st August 2015

York Community Energy invites you on a day trip to Hockerton Housing Project, near Nottingham.

Sustainable Hockerton was one of the original sources of inspiration for York Community Energy. During the 3-hour site tour, led by the Project Director Simon Tilley, you will get a close look at two community-owned renewable energy installations: a 225kW wind turbine (60.5m to tip) and a 50kW solar PV array. Simon will explain how the Sustainable Hockerton initiative went about engaging their community in the projects, how they made them happen and what community benefits these have brought to the village.

We want people to come and see for themselves at first hand the reality of renewable energy, meeting people who live close by a wind turbine. If you have concerns or questions, this will be the ideal chance to raise them with people who have direct first-hand experience.

The first turbine that Hockerton installed received significant local opposition. The second, none.

If you are interested in attending, you can book your place using the following link.

Booking will cost a token £5 to reserve your place – this will not cover the cost of the trip so we of course welcome any additional donation you can make if you feel the trip was useful to you.
