Our 2018 AGM: Smartening Grids and Greening Grimsby
It comes around so quickly! The York Community Energy AGM will be taking place on Thursday September 6th, with talks kicking off at 7:30pm, at our now-customary location of the Friends Meeting House on Friargate (YO1 9RL). Come and hear about the massive changes going on in our energy grid – and more news from the region!
The business AGM will start at 7pm prompt. Nonmembers are welcome but you won’t be able to vote (unless you join on the night!) Or you can feel free just to come along at 7:30, when we have three presentations lined up for you:
First, as usual, YCE chair Richard Lane will give a review of YCE’s last year and give some hints as to what might be coming up in the next year.
Next up we have Dr Vicky Dunn from Grimsby Community Energy. Last year we circulated their community share offer to fund their rooftop solar installations across the city – here’s your chance to hear how that went. A hint: they were named Community Project of the year at the 2017 Humber Renewable Business Awards!
And finally we have Jim Cardwell, head of Policy Development at Northern Powergrid. It is a time of great changes for the UK’s power distribution companies, having to cope with an increase in small scale intermittent generation spread throughout the network – something for which they just weren’t designed. Future grids will have to help control demand as well as holding back the flow with energy storage across the network. Jim will talk us through the current state of play, and fill us in on some of the trials that have already taken place.
We look forward to seeing you there!
