Clean energy from the Scottish Sun – and the Ouse: Our 2016 AGM

Our AGM is fast approaching – the date this year is Monday June 6th, with the venue being once again the Friends Meeting House on Friargate (YO1 9RL).

This year we will have two guest speakers:

YCE is represented at a Friends of the Earth stunt in support of community energy, outside the COP21 summit (Richard Dixon of Edinburgh Solar is speaking)

Richard Dixon of Edinburgh Solar speaking outside the COP21 conference venue in Paris

Dr Richard Dixon is chair of the Edinburgh Community Solar Co-operative which has successfully raised almost £1.5m for a large scale solar photovoltaic project to be installed on the roofs of public buildings. Dr Dixon will talk to us about the project’s latest developments, how it came about and what York could learn from the experiences.

David Mann is Director of MannPower, a hydropower development company which has been involved with hydro developments all over the UK. He was one of the instigators of the Renewable Heritage Trust hydropower scheme at Howsham Mill on the River Derwent, 12 miles outside York. He will be talking about his latest project to develop a new hydropower generator at Linton Lock, the share issue for which is being launched imminently.

The presentations will begin at 7:30pm, but the business meeting of the AGM for YCE members starts at 7pm. You can join YCE at the event if you’d like to vote in the election of officers.

We hope to see you there!
