AGM 2019: making homes fit for the future

19th October 2019

Our 2019 AGM will be taking place on Wednesday October 30th in the Denham Room at the Priory Street Centre, York YO1 6ET (map), with the main event starting at 7:30pm.

It’s time for the annual catch-up with the latest in community energy! This year our focus has turned to what we can do to make our existing housing stock more energy efficient, to save money and reduce our energy burden and carbon footprint. Our two guest speakers have considerable expertise on tackling this subject: Jonathan Atkinson from Carbon Co-op and Eric Parks of Buckrose Ecological Architects.

We’ll be serving some refreshments from 6:45 ahead of the business section of our AGM which starts at 7pm. This is where we review the accounts, elect members to the committee and deal with any motions that have been raised. Only members can vote (though you can join on the night!) – non members may prefer to arrive at 7:30 for the main public event.

We have three talks for you:

“Are you retrofit ready?”

The retrofitted maisonette block at Enerley Close

Eric Parks is a certified Passivhaus Designer and a member of the Association for Environment Conscious Building and the Passivhaus Trust. He has been involved with many retrofit projects including a high profile social housing retrofit at Enerley Close in Manchester, bringing a block of maisonettes up to the ultra-efficient Passivhaus standard. He’ll be sharing his experiences of retrofit projects and the lessons learned.

Carbon Co-op’s People Powered Retrofit project

People Powered Retrofit

Jonathan Atkinson co-founded Carbon Co-op, one of the country’s leading community energy pioneers. He’ll be talking about their People Powered Retrofit project, a householder-led deep retrofit project currently running in Greater Manchester – something very relevant to our Warmer Homes York project!

Our year in review

As well as our guest speakers we’ll hear the roundup of YCE’s year since the last AGM from our Chair, Ivana Jakubková, with a look forward to what may be coming up for YCE members in the next year.

Step up to power up?

As usual the AGM is your opportunity to shape the direction of YCE over the next year. We’re still pursuing generation opportunities and also looking into other possibilities to grow YCE with more services, like the thermal imaging camera now available to members. One way you can be sure to have an impact on YCE is by joining the management committee – all roles are up for election every year: Chair, Vice-chair, Secretary, Membership Secretary and Treasurer, and as well as Ordinary Committee Members we’d also welcome anyone interested in the role of Social Media Officer. If you’re interested in any of these roles, please get in touch to find out more.
